OSIWA’s values define, guide and govern our behavior within the Foundation and with our grantees and partners.

We will act with honesty and integrity without compromising the truth. We will be open, transparent and honest in all our dealings and maintaining the highest integrity. At all times, we will ensure that the highest ethical and professional standards are maintained in our interactions. For us, integrity is about building authentic relationships with each other, our grantees, and all others based on respect and a sense of equality. We will openly and frankly discuss all our concerns and challenges and constructively seek solutions for them. We are accountable and answerable for our conduct (acts and omissions) to each and all others
We are committed to the work that we do and we seek to positively impact lives both within and outside the Foundation. We put our heart and mind in the work to get the very best. Our passion drives our commitment and devotion to our work. We are committed to produce innovative, high quality work with intellectual rigour. Our passion gives us our positive energy, dynamism, commitment, diligence, and tenacity to work in challenging and even hostile circumstances. Our passion gives us the courage to stand strong, and to withstand possible risk, intimidation, and uncertainty. It ensures that we are efficient and effective, reliable and dependent, that time deadlines are always met and that the needs of the Foundation are always paramount. We don’t take shortcuts on quality. We are responsive and proactive in all we do. We seek the best talent and promote its development.
We are a team that works collaboratively and collegially. We stand by our grantees and colleagues within OSIWA and the broader Open Society network even in difficult times. Our interactions are courteous and constructive. Our empathy, responsiveness and teamwork produce the synergy necessary to do our work. We treat one another with respect and communicate openly. We foster collaboration while maintaining individual accountability. We encourage the best ideas to surface from anywhere within the Foundation. We listen to and respect each other whilst working together to achieve mutually beneficial results. When we are unsure we check with others. We provide support to one another, work cooperatively and respect one another’s views. We appreciate that everyone has strengths which we value and will use whenever possible. We help others to achieve their deadlines without having to be asked. We work with one another with enthusiasm and appreciation. We value succeeding as a team while excelling as individuals. We work with one another without manipulation. We do not upset one another intentionally and always endeavour to present negative feedback constructively. We resolve to bring conflict out into the open and to deal with it constructively until all parties are satisfied with the result. We celebrate success and see disappointments as opportunities for growth.
